Stampli vs Tipalti (2026): Which AP Automation Platform Fits Your Team?

Stampli vs Tipalti compared with public vendor data checked on 17 October 2026: pricing, global payments, PO matching, ERP and rollout claims, who each platform fits and how to choose.

Stampli and Tipalti both automate accounts payable (AP), but they start from different places: Stampli from invoice approvals and collaboration inside the AP team, Tipalti from paying suppliers worldwide. Stampli publishes no prices; Tipalti’s AP plans start at $99 a month plus transaction fees. This comparison uses only public vendor pages checked on 17 October 2026 and says whose claim each line is.

Quick answer — Stampli fits teams whose pain is invoice coding, approvals and chasing answers from approvers. Tipalti fits teams that pay many suppliers in many countries and want tax-form and bank-detail checks built into supplier onboarding. Both state their own numbers: ask each for a written quote and dated customer references before you decide.

AP automation in numbers (2026)

  • The average organization spends $9.40 to process one invoice, and best-in-class AP teams cut that cost by 80% through automation (Ardent Partners, AP Metrics that Matter in 2025, reported by Thomson Reuters, 12 May 2025).
  • Best-in-class teams process an invoice in 3.1 days against an industry average of 17.4 days (same report).
  • Vendor-stated reach and scale: Tipalti says it pays in 200+ countries and territories, 120 currencies and 50+ payment methods; Stampli says it has 2,000+ customers and processes 400k+ invoices every week (Tipalti and Stampli, 17 October 2026).

What Stampli is

Stampli describes itself as a procure-to-pay platform built around the invoice: every question, comment and decision stays attached to the invoice, and its AI assistant, Billy, codes, matches and routes invoices. Stampli says Billy performs on average 89% of the work across more than 2,700 ERP-aligned fields, a vendor figure we could not verify independently. It lists 14 ERP and accounting integrations, including QuickBooks Online, SAP S/4HANA, Oracle NetSuite and Sage Intacct, and payment options that include domestic check and ACH, global ACH and wire, and virtual cards. Pricing is by quote (Stampli and Stampli pricing).

What Tipalti is

Tipalti positions itself as finance automation covering payables, payouts, procurement, expenses and treasury. In accounts payable it lists supplier management, invoice processing, global payments, tax compliance, payment reconciliation and PO matching, with AI agents for invoice capture, PO matching, approver recommendations and ERP sync issues. It states payments reach 200+ countries and territories in 120 currencies with 50+ payment methods, and that tax-ID validation covers 62 countries. Integrations named include NetSuite, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP Business One, QuickBooks and Xero. AP plans start at $99 per month with unlimited users; transaction fees and add-on modules are extra, there is no per-user or per-approver fee and no free tier (Tipalti and Tipalti pricing).

Where the vendors contradict each other (and how to test it)

  • Rollout time. Tipalti says it can get customers live in two weeks with white-glove service. Stampli claims its own rollout can take days with a robust API integration and that Tipalti implementations typically take 90 days or more (Stampli’s comparison page). Test: ask each for three references at your invoice volume and ERP, with go-live dates.
  • PO matching. Tipalti says it supports 2- and 3-way matching at header and line level, and that Stampli offers tolerance thresholds for 2-way matching only. We did not find Stampli’s own statement on 3-way matching in the pages we reviewed. Test: run one of your real PO-backed invoices through each demo.
  • Price structure. Tipalti describes Stampli’s pricing as a monthly platform fee with fixed user and invoice allotments plus extra charges, but Stampli publishes nothing to confirm it. Test: ask for a written quote that itemizes users, invoice overage, payments module, per-transaction fees and connector fees.
  • Settlement account. Stampli claims Tipalti requires a pre-funded settlement account and that Stampli has none; the Tipalti pages we read do not address it. Test: ask your treasury team whether pre-funding is acceptable.

Who each one is for

Stampli tends to fit if…

  • your bottleneck is coding, approving and answering questions on invoices, not paying in many countries;
  • your ERP is on its integration list and you want approvers to work from the invoice itself;
  • you accept a quote-based price and will negotiate users and invoice volume.

Tipalti tends to fit if…

  • you pay many suppliers or contractors across countries and currencies;
  • you need tax forms and bank details validated when suppliers are onboarded;
  • you want a published entry price and no per-approver fees, and can model the transaction fees on top.

This is our reading of the public data, not a ranking: neither platform is better in general.

How to choose in five steps

  1. Map your payments: which countries, currencies and methods do your suppliers need?
  2. Count volume and people: invoices per month, approvers, legal entities.
  3. Check your ERP against each vendor’s current integration list and ask how write-back works.
  4. Get both quotes in writing with every fee itemized, then calculate the cost per invoice against the $9.40 benchmark above.
  5. Pilot with your own invoices and call two references per vendor.

What we could not verify

We found no independent benchmark of capture accuracy, real implementation times or final prices for either platform; the figures above are what each vendor publishes about itself or about the other. User-review sites such as G2 and Capterra give a third view, but check how recent the reviews are.

A lighter route if you only need invoice data in your accounting system

Many teams do not need a full payments and approvals suite: they need supplier invoices read accurately and posted to the accounting system they already use. That is the lighter route AIPROCESSIA builds. Tell us about your invoice workflow for a free initial assessment, or see our invoice automation service. Frequently asked questions

Is Stampli cheaper than Tipalti?

There is no public price to compare for Stampli, which quotes on request. Tipalti lists accounts payable plans from $99 per month with unlimited users, plus transaction fees. Ask both for a written quote at your invoice volume, including payment and connector fees.

Does Tipalti charge per user or per approver?

Tipalti states on its pricing page that it does not charge per-user or per-approver fees; its model is a subscription with transaction-based pricing on top. Stampli does not publish its pricing model, so confirm in writing how users and approvers are counted.

Which one is better for international supplier payments?

Tipalti is built around global payouts and states it reaches 200+ countries and territories in 120 currencies with 50+ payment methods. Stampli lists domestic check and ACH, global ACH and wire, and virtual cards. Both are vendor claims: test your actual supplier countries.

How long does implementation take?

The vendors disagree. Tipalti says it can get customers live in two weeks with white-glove service; Stampli says days with an API integration and claims Tipalti implementations typically take 90 days or more. Ask each for references with go-live dates at your size and ERP.

Do I need a full AP platform at all?

Not always. If the real need is getting supplier invoice data into the accounting system you already use, a lighter, integration-first setup can remove most manual entry without adopting a payments and approvals platform.
